Sunsets and Airplanes @ YVR

Don’t forget to click either 720P or 1080P in the YouTube box! =)

Richmond, BC is home to the Vancouver International Airport and has a ton of non-stop air traffic all the time. This obviously attracts a lot of people to just come out and enjoy the beehive of activity on constant display. Tonight I’ve traveled to the park just off of Russ Baker Way, on Sea Island, to enjoy the planes, all draped by a beautiful sunset.

Plane Coming In

The park I visited is situated just before the main runway, so the planes come directly overhead as they make their landing approach. Not only is it just awesome to watch and hear, but the volume of planes coming in and taking off rarely leaves a dull moment.

There are always lots of people out as well: families, couples, aviation enthusiasts, and photographers all admiring the action in a beautiful park-like setting.

Enjoying The Sunset

Richmond has several good spots to view the runways. The Russ Baker Way station is my favourite and makes a great evening to catch some beautiful sunsets and check out the airport. We are the airport city after all!!! Get out there and see for yourself!

    Great blog!!
I am from Richmond and I live abroad now for work.
Your pictures and blog make me less homesick.

Your pictures look amazing (I have just gotten a D90 but I have no clue how to use it).
Do you have any suggestions or do you know any sites that would be helpful in learning how to take pictures with D90?

Thank you and keep up the good work :)

Hi Elaine! Thanks for the kind words. Unfortunately I don’t use a DSLR for my shooting but rather a Sony EX1. (dedicated video camera) I would recommend just googling some tutorials… or, YouTube is a FANTASTIC resource for bite sized lessons and tips! Good luck with your D90!

Where abouts are you in the world now? Will you ever come back to Richmond?
